Tribute: Saturday Morning Cartoons

January 2, 2010

Whatever happened to Saturday morning cartoons?  My brother and I would sit in front of the t.v. with a bowl of cereal, mine with milk and his without, to watch them every week.  A few of my favorites are playing above. “Duck Tales”  and the “Gummy Bears” receive honorable mention.

Today’s kids don’t event get cartoons.  I suppose it’s cheaper to re-air Disney programs, recycling them under the ABC Kids branding on the weekends.  After all, it always boils down to money.  Doesn’t it?  Unfortunately it gives a bunch of past-teenage overactors false hope that their careers will blossom to a level where they can one day entertain people their own age.

I DO MISS THE OLD GOOD HUMOR LOONEY TUNES, BUT BEING A CARTOON ARTIST MYSELF I TRY TO BRING GOOD HUMOR TO MY CREATION.

Giving this one new life through Illustration Friday’s topic, “Breakfast.” This is still one of my favorite drawings, so hopefully more people will get to see it. Hope it brings back fond memories for you of days when animation ruled – before Disney started airing their programming under the ABC Kids brand.
